Prof. Joseph Burns Ph.D ’66, astronomy, was elected the new dean of faculty Friday. Burns will officially take over the role from current Dean of Faculty Prof. William Fry Ph.D ’70 on July 1.
After the Faculty Senate voted to “strongly discourage” faculty from assigning homework over academic breaks, several professors said they pushed back assignments to reduce students’ workload over spring break. But many students said they still struggled with work over the vacation.
Buckling to faculty pressure, Day Hall has reversed its decision to cut off funding for the Statler Faculty Club — opting to continue funding the facility in spite of its $700,000 deficit.
