Last Place Finish Does Not Faze Red

Despite a disappointing last place finish by the Cornell men’s swimming team (1-7, 0-7 Ivy League) in the Ivy League Championships this weekend at Princeton, there were some high points and standout performances that made for an interesting and exciting competition.

Men's Swimming Finishes Sixth in Season Ending Ivy Championships

Junior Dean Holcomb and sophomore Michael Cai made DeNunzio Pool in Princeton, N.J., feel like home this weekend when they earned victories in the 400 IM and 200 breast, respectively, as Cornell finished sixth in the Ivy League Championships.

Holcomb won the 400 IM with a school record time of 3:52.94, nearly two seconds ahead of his own record set at last year’s Ivy Championship. Holcomb’s time was nearly a second faster than runner-up Ryan Kikuchi of Brown.

Swimming Team Returns to Action in Ivy League Meet After Extensive Break

After a month-long hiatus, the men’s swimming and diving team will be back in action today as it kicks off a three-day meet against the Ancient Eight at DeNuzio Pool in Princeton, N.J.  The men finished with a 7-2 mark in the dual meet season –– Cornell’s best record since its undefeated 10-0 season in 2006-07.

Swimmers See Mixed Results in Early Season Competition

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams saw mixed results over the break, competing against Yale, Colgate and Columbia. The men (6-2, 4-2 Ivy) looked in midseason form, sweeping all three contests, while the women (2-6, 1-5 Ivy) still struggled to put points on the board, falling in all three matches.

M. Swimming Makes History at Championships

The men’s swimming and diving team wrote history this past weekend at Ivy League Championships, finishing third against its Ancient Eight rivals and breaking 13 school records in the process. The Red is typically better suited to the dual meet season, reaching its peak two years ago, going undefeated in the Ivy League. The team’s third place finish at championships is the best ever for Cornell men’s swimming.
