Milstein Hall Construction On Schedule

Jimmy Crowell  —  Sep 10, 2009

After nearly a decade of cutting though a jungle of bureaucratic red tape, the construction of the College of Architecture, Art and Planning’s new 47,000 square-foot Paul Milstein Hall is well underway. With little delays expected, the project should be completed by Aug. 2011, restoring University Avenue, the AAP Quad and the Arts Quad to normalcy.

As many members of the Cornell community have noticed, the portion of University Avenue stretching from East Avenue to Central Avenue is closed. As a result, a temporary road has been built connecting University Avenue with Central Avenue in order to allow access to the Johnson Art Museum and the buildings along the western side of the Arts Quad.

The Berry Patch: Flag Displays that Almost Went Unnoticed

Feb 17, 2009

We were pretty consumed with all the talk about Milstein last week, but when someone mentioned that there were flags on the Arts Quad, we perked up — everybody loves a good news story. And the display kept changing shape! Throughout the week it seemed that everybody partook and created their very own alternative flag display. While you were all busy reading about the black flags on the Arts Quad, we caught the five following displays that sadly went unnoticed by most ...

1 FLAG

In lieu of the much needed director, office manager and assistant dean for the LGBTQ community and resource center, a group of disgruntled students hoisted one lonely rainbow flag — representing the measly one person needed! — on the top of the clock tower.

If studio space is to an architecture student what laboratory space is to a chemistry student then what is no space to an art student?

Heroes & Villains: Capture the Flag

It’s been one heck of a week for us at H&V. While outside the birds were chirping and the sun was shining, things here at the batcave are heating up as usual. People are angry. They’re waving flags and throwing shoes and passing resolutions to stop resolutions to pass moratoriums … does that make sense to you? Yeah, us neither.

Re: “Profs urge a stop to construction on Milstein Hall,” Letters, Feb. 6

A group of Cornell professors and other members of the University have expressed vigorous opposition to the forthcoming construction of Milstein Hall, an addition for Cornell’s Architecture programs. Plans for the hall were presented in public two years ago by the architect, Rem Koolhaas. The group’s opinion appeared in a Feb. 6 letter to The Sun, and in a motion to be debated by Faculty Senate tomorrow.

AAP Dean Urges Milstein Construction to Move Forward

I did not think I would be writing an op-ed piece on Milstein Hall, and I do so with reservation.
