“The University has no tolerance for behavior that places the health of any member of the Cornell community at risk,” one administrator said.

President David Skorton announced a set of new University-wide diversity initiatives in an email to the Cornell community on Wednesday. The University intends to improve accountability for diversity standards by restructuring the University Diversity Council.

Cornell will join 13 other institutions to combat issues of alcohol use on college campuses as part of the Learning Collaborative on High-Risk Drinking.

Reversing a rapid increase in programmatic costs, the University has cut $2 million — or 1.7 percent — of student service expenditures over the past two years, primarily by condensing administrative units and renegotiating procurement contracts.

Six freshmen who were pledging Sigma Alpha Epsilon when George Desdunes ’13 died in February have left campus. It remains unclear whether the students faced disciplinary action or left campus voluntarily.

The Graduate and Professional Student Association met yesterday for the first meeting of the year in the Big Red Barn. In attendance were University President David Skorton and Vice President for Student and Academic Services Susan Murphy ’73.

“Any non-academic policy issue that impacts the graduate student body is within our interests,” said Mario Guerrero grad. “This is a meeting where we talk about some of the advocacy issues we’re looking into.”
