And The Winners Are... Live Oscar Blogging

12:04 am by Peter Jacobs:

Well, this has been fun. Hopefully people will be able to read this! From both of us, good night!

12:02 am by George Karalis:

Alright, Peter, fine. You did predict Hurt Locker. I'm just too busy rejoicing that real films (with real actors addressing real issues) are still the most recognized.

12:00 am by Peter Jacobs:

And for the record, although I wanted Avatar to win, I did predict this would happen. Congratulations to everyone involved with the film.

11:59 pm by Peter Jacobs:

I should probably see this movie now...

11:59 pm by George Karalis:

Oh yes. Hurt Locker takes it all! Peter Jacobs wrong again. What an excellent year in film.

11:58 pm by Peter Jacobs:

From NY Times: Sandra Bullock is now the first actor to recieve an Academy Award and a Razzie in the same year.

11:57 pm by George Karalis:

Thanks for stopping by, Julie.

11:56 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Thanks Julie!

11:55 pm by Julie Block:

SO HAPPY! Okay guys, I'm out, have fun for the end.

11:55 pm by George Karalis:

Time has come indeed. Excellent choice, Academy.

11:55 pm by Julie Block:

Like the 2008 Elections!

11:53 pm by George Karalis:

Best Director could be a woman, an African American man, or, maybe, just another white guy.

11:52 pm by Julie Block:

Your grandmother is hilarious. And right. Miss Congeniality, the first, is kick ass. That said, the Meryl Streep joke was pretty awesome.

11:51 pm by Peter Jacobs:

I honestly thought she was better in Ms. Congeniality. I also enjoyed that film more.

11:50 pm by George Karalis:

I really can't believe it...my grandmother believes she should have won many times before for Ms. Congeniality, Ms. Congeniality 2, etc., etc.

11:49 pm by Julie Block:

Just let it be known that when Sandra Bullock won Best Actress (AGH STOP IT WITH THE RACIST MOVIES) Rabia chucked her book across the room.

11:48 pm by Peter Jacobs:

THIS IS SUCH BULLSHIT!

11:46 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Could Sydney also analyze the appearance of Cindy Crawford in every commercial? Oscar commercials should be more like Super Bowl commercials.

11:40 pm by George Karalis:

Woah, Oprah makes an appearance.

11:40 pm by Julie Block:

Ha! That's two against one, Peter. Also, what is with the the JC Penny commercials?! I never understood why the ads aren't more exciting during the Oscars (although Sydney, ad aficionado, just said they're all new, for the most part). Also, I really wish Precious would win for Best Picture, but that's never, ever, ever going to happen.

11:36 pm by George Karalis:

Julie, I am sincerely agreeing with you. I'm just trying to rally against Peter. (Go Hurt Locker). I must, however, agree with Peter that all the Best Actor and Actress nominees are good choices for the award (err, well, Sandra Bullock).

11:35 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Yeah they've been doing good work with the tributes. I really liked all the male nominees this year. Same with the actresses, all strong performances.

11:33 pm by George Karalis:

Jeff Bridges, very deserving...dude. That Oscar will really tie the whole room together.

11:33 pm by Julie Block:

Yea I picked up that tone from George's "Well, thanks." We'll agree to disagree. On another note, I like that they just did this "recognize the dudes" thing. It was very dignified, and completely understandable because they all were deserving.

11:33 pm by Peter Jacobs:

I did NOT realize he had 5 nominations. Obviously very much deserved.

11:30 pm by Peter Jacobs:

I think the exact opposite. Avatar should win (best filmgoing experience of the year), but I really do think Hurt Locker will take home the statue.

11:28 pm by George Karalis:

Well, thank you, Julie.

11:27 pm by Julie Block:

(Btw, weird things are happening ... I can't see the text of what's happened so far when I'm typing. JAMIE, help!) Umm, my pick for who should win? Hurt Locker. Who will win? Avatar (maaaaaaybe Up in the Air). And then I shall throw things at my TV.

11:21 pm by George Karalis:

Julie, what's your pick for best picture? Peter and I are having a little dispute here.

11:19 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Kathy Bates > Keanu Reeves

11:19 pm by Julie Block:

Hey crew, just stopping by to say hi. Also, look at that face! Meaning Alec Baldwin's, meaning all the ridiculous facial expressions he's been making so far.

11:18 pm by George Karalis:

Not that I've seen any of the foreign film nominees, but I wasn't expecting el Secreto de Sus Ojos to win. Added to my list.

11:09 pm by George Karalis:

Why does Keanu Reeves get to introduce the Hurt Locker? Why?

11:08 pm by George Karalis:

Oh, look. Hurt Locker and Avatar both have 3 now. They're tied.

11:06 pm by George Karalis:

"They just said my name at the Oscars, he, he." Thanks, Tyler Perry

10:55 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Dream Team. Avatar takes another.

10:49 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Breakdancing ballet.

10:48 pm by George Karalis:

Hip-hop dancing to very serious music is just bizarre. Takes away from the greatness of the scores it's presenting.

10:41 pm by George Karalis:

The tributes are always nice.

10:36 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Called that. 2-2. And Team Avatar got real awards.

10:35 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Seconded.

10:35 pm by George Karalis:

I still don't love Sandra Bullock.

10:30 pm by Peter Jacobs:

John Travolta + Inglorious Basterds is a fantastic pairing.

10:29 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Elizabeth Banks. Cute, but not funny. At all.

10:26 pm by George Karalis:

First of (hopefully) many for Hurt Locker. Get excited world. (Screw Avatar.)

10:16 pm by Peter Jacobs:

I don't understand why his appearence is supposed to entice me to stay.

10:13 pm by George Karalis:

Why is Taylor Lautner coming up next? We've seen him wayyy to many times tonight already.

10:11 pm by George Karalis:

I predicted Bright Star. I wasn't too far off. But thanks, Sandy Powell, for shitting all over the Academy.

10:07 pm by Peter Jacobs:

First of (hopefully) many to Avatar. Get excited world.

10:02 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Why did Peter Saarsgard shave his head? He looks mad scary.

10:01 pm by George Karalis:

No, Samuel L. Jackson...

10:01 pm by George Karalis:

Can we see Morgan Freeman again? She's talking about black people.

9:59 pm by George Karalis:

Mo'Nique is so incredible in Precious. Deserves it 100%.

9:52 pm by George Karalis:

Wow, and they show Morgan Freeman after Precious wins...because he's black.

9:51 pm by George Karalis:

Woah! Precious gets it for adapted screenplay!? I was really hoping Up in the Air would be recognized. It's really a shame that Up in the Air is being swept under the carpet this year.

9:42 pm by George Karalis:

Congratulations, Star Trek.

9:39 pm by Peter Jacobs:

This is legit hysterical. Nice tail.

9:39 pm by George Karalis:

Wow. Ben Stiller is actually funny.

9:37 pm by George Karalis:

The live-action shorts look so good. I wish there were more opportunities to see them. Hopefully after this recognition there will be.

9:36 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Did that purple-dressed woman confuse anyone else?

9:32 pm by George Karalis:

And Logorama takes it. Finally something creative winning!

9:31 pm by George Karalis:

Pleaseee Logorama!

9:27 pm by George Karalis:

I will say the next two they introduce will be Precious and An Education for the same reason.

9:25 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Note: The three films they've highlighted so far (Blind Side, District 9, Up) would not have been nominated if there had only been 5 noms.

9:22 pm by Peter Jacobs:

I'm sadder watching this then when I first found out he died. This is really well done.

9:19 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Totally agreed. The man made some of the best movies of the 80s/ all time. Well placed tribute though. Very appropriate.

9:17 pm by George Karalis:

Why didn't people make a bigger deal about John Hughes dying this year?

9:17 pm by George Karalis:

It's nice that Hurt Locker won though. A relevant but unopinionated film about Iraq is certainly deserving.

9:16 pm by Peter Jacobs:

I'm legitimately surprised. I would have called Quentin or Up.

9:14 pm by George Karalis:

Come on Quentin, you got this.

9:13 pm by Peter Jacobs:

And the bow-tie.

9:12 pm by George Karalis:

I love Tina Fey. But what's up with the sunglasses, Robert Downey Junior?

9:05 pm by Peter Jacobs:

"I love you more than rainbows baby" is my new favorite line.

9:04 pm by George Karalis:

I'm glad for Crazy Heart. The music is what kept that movie going. Well, that and Jeff Bridges, of course.

9:04 pm by George Karalis:

Yes, but I would like to hear the songs performed like in past years. This year has some good songs.

9:03 pm by Peter Jacobs:

I like that they're doing behind the scenes footage for Best Song.

9:00 pm by Peter Jacobs:

The only downside of this is that Up won't win BP.

8:59 pm by George Karalis:

Okay, that's fine, Up deserves it. But Mr. Fox, you're still the best in my heart.

8:59 pm by Peter Jacobs:

YES!

8:58 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Oh my God I loved Up so much. SO MUCH!

8:53 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Is this the first iPad commercial? Looks realllllllly cool.

8:51 pm by Peter Jacobs:

I still can't believe Blind Side was nominated for anything.

8:50 pm by George Karalis:

Nice speech, Mr. Waltz. Though, you've had enough practice with all those awards this year.

8:48 pm by Peter Jacobs:

All right all right all right. Mazel Tov Herr Waltz.

8:47 pm by George Karalis:

I like all of these Supporting Actor nominees.

8:45 pm by Peter Jacobs:

If they're doing this much footage for Supporting Actor they better show the whole movie for Best.

8:44 pm by George Karalis:

They're getting the unsurprising ones out of the way first.

8:44 pm by George Karalis:

No, Zach Efron and Taylor Lautner will not be Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin in 5 years. They're not talented.

8:42 pm by George Karalis:

"Who doesn't like Sandra Bullock?" That's enough of a joke for me.

8:42 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Showing the Coen Brothers after mentioning the Jews is slightly inappropriate.

8:41 pm by Peter Jacobs:

I don't like George Clooney's hair.

8:40 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Why is Dave Foley at the Oscars?

8:40 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Woody Harrelson punched a photographer because he thought he was a zombie. That is all.

8:39 pm by George Karalis:

Hugh Jackman was so much better than this. Two heads are really not better than one.

8:37 pm by George Karalis:

Nobody makes fun of Helen Mirren and gets away with it...

8:36 pm by George Karalis:

The 10 films for Best Picture was bad idea. They didn't make a good joke about it though.

8:36 pm by Peter Jacobs:

I don't get the Tolstoy joke.

8:34 pm by Peter Jacobs:

SO CUTE TOGETHER!

8:33 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Nice lead in to having two hosts. Kind of annoying song though.

8:32 pm by George Karalis:

Neil Patrick Harris?!

8:32 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Really cool Black and White feel.

8:31 pm by Peter Jacobs:

I like this intro. Let's also not forget Sir Ben made out with an Olsen twin.

8:31 pm by George Karalis:

Interesting opening. Good thing they're eliminating the possibility of actor's name slip-ups. Sorry, Sir Ben Kingsley.

8:30 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Here we go...

8:29 pm by Peter Jacobs:

If the Oscar goes to Sandra Bullock I will cry. Go Gabourey.

8:27 pm by George Karalis:

Meryl Streep deserves this. It's really too bad that the Oscar is going to Sandra Bullock.

8:26 pm by Peter Jacobs:

MERYL STREEP WEARING CHRIS MARCH! PROJECT RUNWAY WIN!

8:25 pm by George Karalis:

Taylor Lautner sounds as annoying as he looks.

8:25 pm by Peter Jacobs:

You go Gabourey!

8:22 pm by Peter Jacobs:

ZING!

8:22 pm by George Karalis:

Because they need the preteen girl viewership

8:22 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Why does she look like she's 30?

8:22 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Why is Miley Cyrus here?

7:55 pm by Peter Jacobs:

Sweet. It works. Thanks Jamie.

7:54 pm by George Karalis:

Let the wild rumpus begin! Peter and I will be here blogging all night long.
