Thomas Pynchon ’59, one of the century’s most lauded novelists, may see one of his novels adapted to the silver screen. “Inherent Vice” is the tale of a private eye in the 1960’s who devolves into an underworld of crime and psychadelics. The big-screen version may play host to a number of of A-list stars, including Robert Downey, Jr. and director Paul Thomas Andersen, Jr., whose “There Will Be Blood” was nominated for 8 academy awards in 2008.

Pynchon is most famous for his sprawling, audacious literary achievements, including “V.” and “Gravity’s Rainbow.” “Inherent Vice” has been lauded as one of Pynchon’s more mainstream efforts, and was well-received amongst critics in its initial 2009 release. [MTV.com]
