Diesel “Be Stupid”: When I think of Diesel, I think of semi-guido douchebags. When I think of semi-guido douchebags, I think of stupid people. In an attempt to reach their target audience, Diesel has made being stupid the smart, cool thing to be. Way to go, Diesel. You’ve making me regret my $40,000 education with your inspirational creative campaign. I’m going to go do something stupid. Maybe that will land me a job.
Skoda “Foot Envy”: My right foot's never done anything to make my left foot jealous. Maybe that’s because I used to drive an injured 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport (R.I.P. Kujo). Skoda drivers, on the other hand, are apparently trying to start shit and instill hatred in their own limbs, by their own limbs. I can’t help but cringe when the left foot tortures the right foot … maybe it’s for the betterment of America that Skoda isn’t produced here.
Old Spice “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like”: If you live in a cave, you’ve probably at least heard about Old Spice’s new ad. I can’t decide what sells the commercial most (wait, this ad was created to sell a PRODUCT?!): Is it the utter randomness? Is it the fact that it was shot in one take, with the only special effect being the Old Spice bottle rising from the palm of the actor’s hand? How about the fact that the actor’s real name is Isaiah Mustafa? Judge for yourself.
Whatever the reason for its popularity may be (personally, I’m going with the whole “Mr. Mustafa” thing), Old Spice has created quite a stir. If you’re wondering to yourself, “Golly gee — I want to know when stirs are being stirred! How can I find them stirs like you did?” My advice is to search for YouTube parodies. Here are my two favorite Old Spice parodies. The first — a simple classic.
The next, however, is taking parody to a new level. These two middle-age folk singers declare the commercial to be the most romantic thing they’ve ever seen and therefore, they set the words to John Denver’s “You Fill Up My Senses” (which they claim to be the most romantic song). It’s quite the, well ... Ithaca rendition.
