Response to E-mail Outage Inadequate, Report Finds
September 4th, 2008The University’s response to a massive e-mail outage in June was inadequate and caused significant interruption to the business of the University, according to a report released last month. The unexpected and widespread e-mail failure prevented some members of the Cornell community from sending or receiving e-mail for as long as five days and caused irreversible damage to about 3,800 email accounts. The report summarizes the findings of a group of Cornell officials throughout campus who performed an “after action review” of the incident. Read More

Weill Hall on Track for Official Oct. Opening
September 4th, 2008High-tech shared research facilities and innovative laboratories are just a few of the features the newest addition to the Biology Quad and the most technologically advanced research facility on campus, Weill Hall, sports. The building is set to officially open on Oct. 16, although some labs opened during the summer. The establishment of a life science research facility has been “the highest priority for [the] University’s presidents since the early ’90s,” said Susan Henry, the Ronald P. Lynch Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Read More
University Bids Farewell To Provost Biddy Martin

Fulbright Awards 20 Cornellians Scholarships for Research Abroad
September 3rd, 200820 Cornellians, including undergraduates, graduates and alumni, will conduct research from abroad this year as part of either the Fulbright Scholarship or Fulbright Hays Fellowship. Open to U.S. citizens and funded by the State Department, the Fulbright encourages cultural exchange as well as academic and professional development. Through the Department of Education, the Fulbright Hays Fellowship for doctoral students is open to permanent U.S. residents as well as citizens, and promotes research in non-European countries.
