On Saturday, The Sun held its annual elections, bidding farewell to the 128th Editorial Board and welcoming in the 129th. While we only can praise the work of the 128th, we of the 129th have big plans ahead for the coming year.
You should expect more investigative pieces out of this board. We strongly believe in our role as a watchdog on campus and we will make it a priority to keep you informed and up-to-date about the actions and decisions that some may want hidden from view. Transparency, for us, is everything.
There will be more features in all sections of this paper as well. We believe in highlighting the extraordinary stories of individuals that have done extraordinary things — whether they be athletes, musicians, scientists or everyday people. Positive stories hold as much value for us as the more negative ones.
We believe in increasing dialogue and interaction with you — our readers. We are going to make it easier for you to offer your feedback and your take on campus life. We will hold open office hours in Libe Café once a week and we are revamping parts of our website to include easier to use feedback buttons, because your voice matters and we can only continue to improve this paper more by hearing from you.
We want to be a space for dialogue between opposing viewpoints on the day’s most contentious issues. If you disagree with an opinion that you see in this paper, do not hesitate to write a letter or column to us expressing your view. All opinions are important and we want to foster communication on all sides.
We want to be a resource for you in print and increasingly online. Over the course of the next year, we plan to unveil exclusive online content. We are in the process of developing and improving our blog content and we recently introduced a “Red Outloud” running comment box on our website for you to post your random observations about all the happenings on campus.
We have a lot of work ahead of us and we’re excited to get started. So keep on reading and always feel free to e-mail or speak to us to let us know how we’re doing.
