From the time that college rankings began officially being published, Cornell University has consistently been ranked as one of the top universities worldwide. Students, faculty members, and alumni take great pride in knowing that the university not only excels in comparison to other American schools, but is also one of the best on an international scale. Until recently, all Americans, regardless of what college they attend or previously attended, have reveled in the fact that their nation’s university system is ranked as one of the highest in the world. Recent reports have shown that the United States is continually decreasing in higher-education performance levels compared to other countries.

Re: “University Takes 15th Place in Annual U.S. News Rankings,” News, Sept. 11

This article adds yet another inaccuracy to the snowballing misconceptions about Clemson University’s approach to the rankings. The myth tends to change slightly with each retelling, but I think this is the first time a news article has stated that “a spokesperson for Clemson University admitted that her school ‘games’ the rankings.”

After graduating 33 players in 2009, including 11 starters, the Red football team knew it had some big holes to fill. Apparently, the media is also aware — Cornell was picked to finish sixth, tied with Columbia, in the Ivy League Preseason Media Poll.

AAP Earns First Rank in Survey

C.U.’s College of Architecture, Art and Planning received high marks in a new survey by DesignIntelligence. The magazine ranked the University’s architecture, interior design and landscape architecture programs at the top of their list of best architecture program.

Cornell’s Bachelor of Architecture program was ranked first of the top 20 in the United States, up two spots from last year’s ranking of number three. The Masters of Architecture program also placed sixth out of the top architecture graduate programs. In the past five years, Cornell’s B. Arch program has been ranked number one four times and the M. Arch program, established in 2004, has placed in the top 20 for the past three years as well.
